The 10 Stages of a Criminal Case

The 10 Stages of a Criminal Case In the event that you have been captured for a wrongdoing, you are toward the start of what could turn into a long excursion through the criminal equity framework. In spite of the fact that the procedure may fluctuate to some degree from state to express, these are the means that most criminal cases follow until their case is settled. A few cases end rapidly with a liable request and paying a fine, while others can continue for a considerable length of time through the interests procedure. Phases of a Criminal Case ArrestA criminal case starts when you are captured for a wrongdoing. Under what conditions would you be able to be captured? What establishes being set to be locked up? How might you tell in the event that you have been captured or kept? This article responds to those inquiries and that's only the tip of the iceberg. Booking ProcessAfter you are captured you are then prepared into police authority. Your fingerprints and photograph are taken during the booking procedure, a record verification is performed and you are put in a phone. Bail or BondThe first thing you need to know in the wake of being put in prison is how much it will cost to get out. How is your bail sum set? Imagine a scenario in which you dont have the cash. Is there anything that you can do that may impact the choice? ArraignmentUsually, your first appearance in court after you have been captured is a consultation called the arraignment. Contingent upon your wrongdoing, you may need to hold up until the arraignment to have your bail set. It is additionally the time that you will find out about your entitlement to a lawyer. Supplication BargainingWith the criminal court framework overpowered with cases, just 10 percent of cases go to preliminary. The greater part of them are settled during a procedure known as request bartering. In any case, you must have something with which to deal and the two sides must concur on the understanding. Fundamental HearingAt the starter hearing, the investigator attempts to persuade the adjudicator there is sufficient proof to show that a wrongdoing was submitted and you presumably dedicated it. A few states utilize a stupendous jury framework rather than primer hearings. It is likewise the time that your lawyer attempted to persuade the appointed authority that the proof isn't persuading enough. Pre-Trial MotionsYour lawyer has the chance to prohibit a portion of the proof against you and attempt to set up a portion of the standard procedures for your preliminary by making pre-preliminary movements. It is additionally when a difference in scene is mentioned. Decisions made during this phase of the case can likewise be issues for engaging the case later. Criminal TrialIf you are really guiltless or on the off chance that you are not happy with any request bargains offered to you, you have the alternative to permit a jury to choose your destiny. The preliminary itself for the most part has six significant stages before a decision is reached. The last stage is directly before the jury is sent to ponder and settles on your blame or honesty. Before that, theâ judge clarifies what legitimate standards are associated with the case andâ outlines the guidelines the jury must use during its consultations. SentencingIf you concede or you were seen as liable by a jury, you will be condemned for your wrongdoing. Be that as it may, there are numerous components that can influence whether you get a base sentence or the most extreme. In numerous states, Â judges should likewise hear proclamations from the casualties of the wrongdoing before condemning. Theseâ victim sway statementsâ can impact the last sentence. Bids ProcessIf you think a lawful mistake made you be indicted and condemned unjustifiably, you can speak to a higher court. Effective interests are uncommon, notwithstanding, and typically stand out as truly newsworthy when they occur. In the United States, everybody blamed for a wrongdoing is expected honest until demonstrated liable in an official courtroom and has the option to a reasonable preliminary, regardless of whether they can't bear to recruit their own lawyer. The criminal equity framework is there to ensure the guiltless and look for reality. In criminal cases, an intrigue requests that a higher court take a gander at the record of the preliminary procedures to decide whether a legitimate blunder happened that may have influenced the result of the preliminary or the sentence forced by the appointed authority.

Admissions process reflections from a crusty Junior

Admissions process reflections from a crusty Junior I’ve recently had a number of startling revelations: I’m almost halfway done with my Junior year, there are only 2 weeks left until Final Exam week starts, and before I know it I’ll be graduating. Where has the time gone??? I feel like just yesterday I was in your shoes, nervously waiting for my early action decision from MIT… *cue psychedelic time-traveling music and hand waving.* MIT was my top choice and applying early action was a no-brainer. My anticipation was compounded by the fact that I had a list of 14 colleges that I was planning on applying to, but I had only completed about 5 of the applications by mid-December (under the assumption that if I didn’t get into MIT then I’d worry about the other ones later.) So, I bit my nails with the knowledge that if I got wait-listed or rejected, I would have to spend my Winter Break moping AND writing (approximately) 1,348,234 essays. About a week before decisions were due, my mom discovered CollegeConfidential.com and began showing me people’s ridiculous posts, which only made me more nervous and sure that I would never get in. Not a chance. Nope. For example, there was one guy who set-up a webcam on his mailbox that had some sort of complicated mechanism that I no longer remember (it involved the little flag that the postman raises when there’s mail.) (Do you remember, mom?) So, thousands of people coul d log onto his website to watch his mailbox for the arrival of a big, beautiful, yellow envelope. As far as I remember, he was admitted. So as the decision date rolled around, I would run to my car after school and speed (I mean… drive quickly but cautiously under the speed limit) home to check my mailbox with my heart pounding the whole time. A week passed, and so did the day when we were supposed to receive the letters. It turns out that there was a giant blizzard in Cambridge, MA, which delayed the shipping of the decision letters. Oh man, was I upset. My heart couldn’t take the constant anticipation, the daily races home, and the deep disappointment of a mailbox filled with bills and coupons. I got so restless that I began to say that I had been put through so much anxiety that I wouldn’t accept the offer even if I did get in (clearly this was just an ill-planned coping mechanism, but it worked for a few days.) Finally, I got tired of racing home and just told my parents that if the letter arrived at home before I did and if they opened it before me, then I would fine them $1,000. They took my threat serious ly. So a couple of days before Winter Break, I was sitting in Computer Science class and I received an email from my parents saying that I got a big envelope from MIT, asking if I would waive the fine and if they could open it. Of course, I caved in, and thankfully the news was good. I had gotten in! I experienced extreme shock followed by disbelief (thinking they must have made a mistake!) followed by “oh my Gods” followed by illicit phone calls and crying in the bathroom. I drove home with Britney Spears on full blast, yelling that I had gotten in. The next day, I had found out that eight people from my high school had been accepted early action, including 2 of my best friends. The initial excitement was tainted by some impolite comments by some of my classmates who claimed that we had only gotten in because we were girls. Even when I knew of my accomplishments and those of my friends, we couldnt help but feel some degree of self-doubt. In hindsight, it’s easy to recognize that they spoke out of jealousy and that MIT would never accept someone for merely having two X chromosomes, but it definitely hurt at the time. So I know what you all are going through… in fact everyone around me knows what it’s like. Your parents, friends, and teachers are probably telling you to relax, that everything will be alright no matter what, that there are other schools than MIT…and they’re absolutely right! But it’s also easier said than done. Check out JKim’s blog for tips on what to do while waiting. Speaking from experience, make sure to obey traffic laws and try not to give yourself a heart attack (i.e. stay off of College Confidential!) Really, stressing out won’t change the contents of the letter. When I was a senior going through the application process and someone told me, “if you’re gold then you’ll shine anywhere.” They were absolutely right. Just keep in mind that you are all motivated and diligent for even reading these blogs to find out more about MIT, and you will do well no matter what school you get into! Obviously I got into MIT, but I also received rejections. Different scho ols look for different qualities, and it’s still early in the application process. Just breathe and you’ll get through it. Good luck!!! Email me if before/during/after the decisions if you need help. May the beaver be with you.

Before the civil war

Before the civil war, a woman had a specific place in society, one that was extremely inferior to that of men. People had developed notions of what it meant to be a woman. The Civil War changed those notions. The War was the beginning of womans strive for suffrage in America. As the war came to an end, women became more involved in the world, and were allowed to achieve and accomplish a lot of things that only men had done in the past. The attributes of True Womanhood, by which a woman judged herself and was judged by her husband, her neighbors, and society could be divided into four cardinal virtues- piety, purity, submissiveness, and domesticity. (Welter 152). In her work, American Quarterly: The cult of True Womanhood, Barbara Welter explains her view on the role of a woman before the Civil War. In order for a girl to reach true womanhood she would have to reach for perfection in the four above categories. After the war, two of these attributes began to decline greatly in women, as they began to find new roles in society. Women started becoming more independent, and the submissiveness and domesticity gradually started to fade. They still had these qualities, but they were definitely not as strong as they had been before the war. Submission was perhaps the most feminine virtue expected of women. Men were supposed to be religious, although they rarely had time for it, and supposed to be pure, although it came awfully hard to them, but men were the movers, the doers, the actors. Women were the passive, submissive responders. (158-9). Women were very submissive before the war, but after it, they felt that they had earned a new role. They learned to perform the duties formerly only performed by men, and now felt that they did not have to give in so easily to the commands of them. A wife should occupy herself only with domestic affairs-wait till your husba...

3 Tricks to Figure out the Authors Tone

3 Tricks to Figure out the Author's Tone Authors tone is simply an authors expressed attitude toward a particular written subject. It may not be his or her actual attitude as authors can certainly express an attitude other than their own. Its very different from the  authors purpose! The tone of the article, essay, story, poem, novel, screenplay, or any other written work can be described in many ways. The authors tone can be witty, dreary, warm, playful, outraged, neutral, polished, wistful, reserved, and on and on. Basically, if theres an attitude out there, an author can write with it. To better understand tone, you should practice. So, now that you know what it is, how can you determine the authors tone when you get to a reading comprehension test? Here are a few tricks to help you nail it every time. Read the Introductory Info On most major reading comprehension tests, the test makers will give you a little snippet of information along with the authors name prior to the text itself. Take these two examples from the ACT Reading test: Passage 1: This passage is adapted from the chapter â€Å"Personality Disorders† in  Introduction to Psychology, edited by Rita L. Atkinson and Richard C. Atkinson ( ©1981 by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Inc.). Passage 2: This passage is adapted from the novel The Men of Brewster Place  by Gloria Naylor ( ©1998 by Gloria Naylor). Without reading any portion of the text itself, you can already determine that the first text will have a more serious tone. The author writes in a scientific journal, so the tone will have to be more reserved. The second text could be anything at all, so when youre reading, youll need to use another trick to determine the authors tone. Watch Word Choice Word choice plays a major part in the tone of a piece. If you look at the examples given in the What is Authors Tone article, youll see how very different an identical situation can be by just the words an author chooses to use. Look at the following words and see how they reflect a different feeling, even though the words are similar in meaning. Sit in the sunshine and smile. Bask in the brilliant rays. Discover your giggle.Sit in the hot sun and smirk. Recline in the glaring rays. Hunt for that snicker.  Sit in the warm sun and grin. Relax in the warm rays. Look for a chuckle. Even though all three sentences are written almost identically, the tones are very different. One is more relaxing- you can picture a lazy afternoon by the pool. The other is more joyful- maybe playing in the park on a sunny day. The other is definitely more sarcastic and negative, even though its written about sitting in the sun. Go With Your Gut Often, a tone is tough to describe, but you know what it is. You get a particular feeling from the text- an urgency or a certain amount of sadness. You feel angry after reading it and can sense the author is angry, too. Or you find yourself chuckling throughout the text even though nothing comes right out and screams funny! So, on these kinds of texts, and the corresponding authors tone questions, trust your gut. And on the authors tone questions, hide the answers and make yourself come up with a guess before looking. Take this question for example: The author of the article would most likely describe ballet as... Before you get to the answer choices, try to finish the sentence. Put an adjective in there based on what youve read. Amusing? Essential? Cut-throat? Joyous? Then, when youve answered the question with a gut reaction, read the answer choices to see if your choice, or something similar, is there. More often than not, your brain knows the answer even if you doubt it!

Visual Rhetoric of 'One Water Film Documentary' Essay

Visual Rhetoric of 'One Water Film Documentary' - Essay Example While the visual scenes and the verbal accompaniments present water as physiologically and spiritually significant, the depletion, improper use, and poor development of the commodity spells a crisis that needs urgent attention. On the whole, the documentary employs one of the most innovative cinematic--visual and verbal--strategies to reach a wider view and attract an appeal to its thematic significance. It opens with the scenes of several people coming together in front of screens to watch awareness-raising movie on the importance of water conservation and how safe-drinking water is crucial (Travis 2). In this Scenario, the cinematic visual expression sets the psychological stage for the viewer to significantly open up to the following scenes. It captures and captivates the audience attention (Dwyer 1).In other scenarios filmed in different countries, the scenes indicating the differences of clear crystal clean water to dripping in some taps in a country and showing over-exploited d irty water in other countries show the differences in how water is a commodity in some regions and a human right in others (Dwyer 1). This is further compounded by the narrator’s exposition that while water is misused in affluent quarters, it is struggled for in other places (Travis 2) Moreover, there are scenes where images on how people use or misuse water which further deals with the dilemma of water in development as well as disease acquisition. Some scenes show human populations using various public water points for bathing, going for calls, as well as drinking. Besides, there are scenes where various other pollutants and thrown into water bodies, all which shocks the audience (Travis 2).Over-exploitation of water is additionally portrayed in other scenes showing the dried out lands bordering the over-exploited Colorado River, which has changed the water movement path (Dwyer 2). The statistical figures showing the urgency with which the death tendency of children in rela tion to the availability of water in the developing world vis-a-vis the developed nations shows that water crises need to be addressed urgently. It reveals a lack of understanding that many people across the world need to know that usage of polluted water should not be the rule, but the exception (Garcia 1). In an Indian Desert, Rajasthan, a woman and her child are shown carrying water pots crossing a seemingly dry lake, and a picture of winds transmitting salt onto some agricultural land. This ushers the notions of the extent to which agricultural productivity is enormously affected by lack of water. In Kenya and indeed the entire Sub-Saharan Africa, the picture of how unsafe water causes Malaria, diarrhea and other water born diseases introduces the viewer on the relationship of severity between water and disease micro-bills (Garcia 2). Indeed, the visual images that illustrate poverty and diseases unfold in various countries as the movie progresses (Dwyer 3). The picture of India n women carrying pots and fetching water from hand pumps is one such. Then there a scenes indicating that the use of under ground water, leads to sickness, as ground water deficits are characterized with ‘arsenic seepage into wells.’’ What is more, there are scenes showing women walking and crossing through and muddy and sewage-full streams while struggling to protect that precious commodity that

Dunkin Donuts case Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Dunkin Donuts case - Essay Example With this concern, the essay will qualitatively along with financially analyze and recommend better implementation strategies for DD in addressing and mitigating the aforementioned issues. II. DUNKIN DONUTS AND TOMMY’S FRANCHISE STORE ANALYSIS Tommy can be apparently observed as serving a franchise owner of DD for more than 17 years. However, as days passed, the performance of Tommy’s store declined as per the standard of Customer Satisfaction Guide (CSG). This eventually resulted in deteriorating the franchisee standard of DD. Besides, DD has also been making complaints against Tommy about his non-payment of fees to DD within the stipulated time period. Thus, considering the aforementioned situation, it can be affirmed that DD should disenfranchise its affiliation with Tommy and restructure the store into a company-owned establishment. The company-owned store would certainly assist DD towards making greater sales through having greater control over the operational func tions (Trefis, â€Å"How Important Are Company Owned Stores to Mcdonald’s Stock ?†). However, prior to making this decision, certain options that have been provided to this situation require to be analyzed. These options have been elaborated hereunder. 1) Maintaining Tommy as Franchisee. The initial option, which has been provided to DD in this situation, is keeping Tommy as the franchise owner till the end of the contract. It can be affirmed that this particular option would not be appropriate for DD owing to Tommy’s bad performance in maintaining the standards of his franchise store, which in turn, affected the brand image of DD at large. In addition, the non-payment of fees in a fixed time period by Tommy might also generate certain potential problems between him and DD. Thus, this option would not be relevant for DD in the situation of buying the store of Tommy with the lowest probable price. 2) Royce as a New Franchisee Replacing Tommy’s Position. Th e second option of replacing Tommy with another franchise named Royce has been given to DD. It is strongly believed that Royce will not only be able to meet the industry standards, but would also deliver significant profits to DD. Therefore, this particular option can be justified on the grounds that DD will get 4.5 and 4.9% variable fee along with additional rental fee above sales of $165,000. 3) Company Owned Store at Tommy’s Franchise. The third option is to form a company owned store at Tommy’s franchise. This could be a favorable option for DD in terms of making significant profits. Assuming that this particular store would generate a sale of $ 290,000 and the total profit margin of a company owned store is of 13%, the total cash flow and the profit margin of a company owned store would be more as compared to a franchise store. This can be better understood with the help of the following tabular representation. Apart from attaining substantial profitability, DD ca n also be benefitted from this option i.e. setting up a company owned store at Tommy’s franchise in terms of effectively monitoring the store, scrutinizing customers’ voice and controlling various operational functions of the store efficiently contributing further to its well-built brand image (Chabaud and Saussier, â€Å"Incentives and Control In Company-Owned Vs. The Relationship Between Cinema And Literature Film Studies Essay

The Relationship Between Cinema And Literature Film Studies Essay Introduction: CINEMA and LITERATURE are connected /related to each other but still they are different in their own ways.It has always been one of the most fascinating forms of knowledge which has made great impact on human psyche. From the early magical experiments till the recent release of Ron Howards Angels Demons the relationship between cinema and literature has always been closely intertwined. It has proved on the whole a successful symbiosis, a relationship that remains to this day as inextricable as it is fruitful. Some half century ago, even one French film critic proposed the question as to whether the cinema was capable of surviving without the twin crutches of literature and theatre and the answer was no. Cinema is a nascent art, and as such, it has sought in its most vulnerable years succour from the previous generations of theatre and literature. This Borgesian library traversing ages, cultures and continents, written in a thousand languages, incorporating multitudinous philosophies and wildly incompatible theologies is the rich and fertile soil in which cinema has firmly planted its roots and has ever since flourished because it has recourse to the literature of millennia. Cinema has been a thousand years in the making. The literature of antiquity has provided endless inspiration for cinematic epics likeThe Bible has spawned such films as The King of Kings (1961), David Bathsheba (1951), The Robe (1953), Samson Delilah (1949), and The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965) there are countless others. The story of the prophet Moses was most memorably filmed by Cecil B. DeMille as The Ten Commandments (1956), a film that was an amalgam of several novels that were themselves based on the written word of the Hebrew Prophet himself Hindi cinema portrays women in more risquà © clothing, but that doesnt signify progress.   If anything, in their visual and story portrayal of women, most movies seem to be taking India backwards. The British may have left India long ago, but the obsession with fairness and the idolization of foreigners hasnt lessened.   There are an overwhelming number of non-Indian women in dance numbers and landing roles, as in the case of the Brazilian actress in Love Aaj Kal.   Even most of the stars who make it are increasingly the Western ideal: fair and blue-eyed or the ramp model  no Sridevis or Madhuri Dixits to be found. Movie stars represent idealized visions of female beauty, which does change through generations.  Secondly, movie plots are riddled with the outdated virgin or vamp characters.   The vamp is overtly sexual, as if that alone shows strength.   But, if sexuality is to be empowering, it has to be owned, not just the fantasy of men in an item number.   Though stories may demand certain types of characters sometimes, most of the time in Bollywood, the modern, and often bad, woman becomes the one in less clothes and the good woman is the sacrificing, loyal one, even if it means being humiliated.   Even in comparison to decades ago, the handling of wives and affairs is offensively regressive in movies, like No Entry and Biwi No. 1. There were more powerful female characters 30 years ago as in Sharda. Movies like Salaam Namaste may feature strong women but the story unmarried couple deciding to have a baby is so far removed from average Indian society that they might as well be fantasies.   Women fare better in the indie cinema scene, like Dor or Fashion. Since the inception of cinema, literature has attracted all creative filmmakers. In India, pioneers like Pramathesh Barua and Debaki Basu have based their films on the works of writers such as Sarat Chaterjee,. Satyajit Rays film Pather Panchali, which first brought Indian cinema international acclaim, was based on the great work of literature, by famed writer Bhibuti Bhusan Bandopadhyay. Eminent directors across the world are still making films based on the works of Shakespeare, Dickens and Hemingway. This proves, beyond doubt, the irresistible charm literature holds for filmmakers! PROPOSED CHAPTERIZATION- First chapter: How cinema and literature are related It is said that if youre going to see a movie based on a book you think is worth reading, read the book first, you can never read the book with the same imaginative responsiveness to the author once you have seen the movie. Cinema is also used in a response to poetry. The tapes and films were chosen out of the American experimental tradition to exemplify various techniques of marrying the two arts. Poetry as the art of utterance and cinema the art of showing, both whole on their own, dont easily make a good couple. But these film and video makers have taken up the challenge anyway by responding to the spirit and the letter of the poet, creating an original cinematic writing. Cinema and language meet head on, not unified as in conventional film, but remaining distinct and dancing, stepping on toes, wooing each other with the charms of mouth and eye and mind. Youll see images own syntax shuffled, blended, chafing and dovetailing with language; youll hear and read poets work while seeing and hearing filmmakers. The advent of cinema in the early 1900s rapidly led to a link between film and literature, the confluence of both medium becoming especially significant during the early 1930s, and a period that is often referred to as the classic cinematic period. Although the relationship between film and fiction has been largely beneficial, often resulting in increased recognition for novels that were previously unpopular, critical study of the convergence has frequently focused on the drawbacks of this adaptive and interpretive partnering. In recent years, the tie-in between literature and cinema has seen an intense and sustained revival, but discussion continues among critics and reviewers regarding the credibility of film adaptations from texts of fiction. Studying the relationship between film and fiction, critics have noted the value and limitation of each medium. A major point of discussion among scholars is the ability of the written word to convey multiple layers of meaning and consciousness, in contrast to the usually linear progression of events portrayed in film. In fact, some theorize that because of the sheer depth and intensity of novel-length narratives, the novella or short story is more often the right length for adaptation to feature film. Although controversy surrounds the adaptive methods employed by the screenwriters for both texts, there is consensus about the success of both the text and film versions of these works. The second chapter: Cenimatic Adaptations- In this chapter ,try to project some of the best adaptations of literary works that have ever happened. In India, whose Hindi language film industry is nicknamed as Bollywood. Which routinely picks up movies and novels from around the world and copies them without credit and usually end up mangling them. But, sometimes, just sometimes, they get it and end up doing adaptations that are better than the originals they are based on. I do not know why. Basically, Hollywood almost always ruins literary adaptations. There is probably something in the methods of Bollywood that suits these works. Some of the best known works in Bollywood are- No.1 is PINJAR, title means Skeleton and this movie was based on Amrita Pritams novel who is also an anti-socialist.. NO.2 OMKARA is Vishal Bharadwajs take on Othello is set in rural UP, where gun-toting gangsters fight with each other for turf control. Bharadwajs adaptation is very close to the original, differing only in little plot details.. NO.3 SURAJ KA SATWAN GHODAN which means the seventh horse of the sun,is another interesting film NO.4 UTSAV is Girish Kannads movie is based on an ancient Sanskrit play called Mricchakatika. But, Kannad fills his movie with so many extras and have them debate theory of aesthetics that this movie becomes a succesful example of making your adaptation say what the original never said The third chapter: ADAPTATIONS of- 1)Pinjar film based on a Punjabi novel by the same name, written by Amrita Pritam is a story of Puro, a young woman of Hindu background, finding herself living a lovely life in a period circling the time of the Partition of 1947 with her family. All is well for Puro, the main protagnst who finds herself betrothed to a wealthy, sweet young man, from a promising family akin to her own background. Her family lives in Amritsar but journeys to their ancestral village of Chattovani to search for prospective grooms. They finally engage Puro to Ramchand from Rattoval, near her ancestral village. Although her life seems to be well-charted, Puros bliss is shattered one day as a leisurely trip in the fields beyond her home with Raj her younger sister turns traumatic as she is kidnapped by a mysterious Muslim man, who turns out to be Rashid. 2)Omkara Omkara Shukla is a baahubali, a sort of political enforcer, leader of a gang which carries out political crimes for the local politici with Langda Tyagi and the movie starts with Langra trying to and stop Omkara from abducting the bride where on the other hand,Dollys father an advocate, mostly referred in the movie as vakeel saab (lawyer sir), is furious and confronts Omi.He puts gun on omkaras head so,to bring a final solution to this issue, Dolly is made to appear in front of her father and clarify that she eloped with Omi rather than being abducted forcefully. She also tells the events of how she fell in love with Omkara. The father leaves feeling betrayed and ashamed. Later in the story when Langda is disappointed with Omkaras poor judgment and jealous of Kesu, his younger, less-experienced, superior; hatches a plot to avenge both his offenders. He On one hand, playing the role of a concerned friend Langda convinces Kesu to appeal to Dolly, Omis lover and bride-to-be to m ollify Omi. On the other he starts to disrepute Dolly by implicating Kesus visits to ask Dolly for her help as meetings in an illicit love affair between the two. During the climax, on the night of their wedding, Omi is convinced that Dolly and Kesu have been having an affair behind his back. In utter rage, he smothers his new wife to death. Langda shoots Kesu with a silent approval from Omi. Kesu is hit with a bullet on his arm. Hearing gunshots and in shock, Indu enters the room where Omi is sitting next to Dollys corpse in remorse. Indu notices the kamarbandh and mentions stealing it, they both understand the fatal misunderstanding and Langda as its root cause. Both the movies are adaptations of the novels .One of them written by an Indian writter and the other by a Britisher. They have their own styles of writing and the way they presented it.But there is one common point on which both the adaptations are similar and that is The role of a women ,it seems that it is a male dominating society and both the adaptations portray it clearly. So the next chapter would be dealing with this only. The fourth chapter: FEMALES SUBJUGATED BY MALES- The portrayal of women in Indian cinema is the biggest clichÃŽÂ ¹ that the discourse on gender has to address. But the more specific aspect of this clichÃŽÂ ¹ i.e. the representation of the female body and the time and space that accommodate it is worth elaboration. Society was very patriarchal during earlier times; men were in control of all monetary assets. When a man died, his money was actually passed on to the closest living male heir and the women were left penniless. While men and women were allowed to choose their own partners, money/wealth/status was very important and often marriages were made on those grounds alone. Both the plots deal with a very different story line but it shows the condition of a women. In pinjar the very first line says Tu janam mein hi mar gayee hoti. Marriage is the only possible course for the heroines life, and the main proagnist does not seem to expect anything more. We even get a hint of the heroiens abduction and the resulting doubts about her sexual purity when her would be husband sings a song about the agnipariksha (trial by fire) that proves Sitas chastity after her abduction by Ravan. In omkara women is used as a commodity, not given any importance. The girl who is ready to leave everything for Omkaras sake is in the end killed by him only. She is treated badly by her husband as she is no more trusted by her husband. This shows that women are only sacrificing and are always at the receiving end. They are always dominated by males starting from the age of Chaucer till 21st centuary.

Athens vs Sparta Essay

Athens which is in southern Europe is one of the oldest cities in Ancient Greece. It is believed to have been established in the end of the fourth millennium BC. The name Athens is derived from ancient Greek goddess Athena. Sparta is said to have been founded by Lacedaemon the son of Zeus and Taygete who married Sparta the daughter of Eurotas. Sparta was a city that was on the banks of the River Eurotas in ancient Greece. In the next few paragraph I will compare and contrast a few things between Athens and Sparta. First will be the Government of the two, next will be the religion among both and last will be the lives of the citizens of Athens and Sparta. The Governments of Athens and Sparta were different yet there are a lot of similarities between the two. Both had an assembly whose members were elected and appointed by the people. Sparta had two kings who were the rulers and could only be forced out of office or turn it over by death. In Athens new officials were elected annually by the people. It is said that Athens was the birthplace for democracy because both officials were elected by the people. Spartan had a major focus on training boys to become warriors for the military. Life as an Athenian was different the boys had a choice whether they wanted to join the military or not. I believe this is one the major reasons why Sparta was such a dominant military and later took over Athens. There isn’t a difference between Sparta and Athens when it comes to religion. However there was a different emphasis on the way the religion was practiced. They each worshipped the same gods although some were considered more important than others. The people of Athens highly worshipped Athena where the patron of Sparta was Artemis. Both believed that worshipping the gods would make their everyday lives much better as well as they would be taken care of by the gods after death. The livelihood of the citizens of Sparta and Athens were extremely different.

Prof. John B. Miner of State University of New York conducted research the findings of which revealed which of the entrepreneurs† attained success and who fell short. Ultimately he segmented the thriving entrepreneurs into four separate â€Å"personalities†, and evaluated the strategies each category applied to achieve success. The four different types of personalities propounded by him are The Personal Achiever, The Super Salesperson, The Real Manager and The Expert Idea Generator. What do these indicate? Personal achievers are the ones who think about an urgency to be successful in their lives. They are the â€Å"typical† idea of an entrepreneur which a lot of people cultivate. They shower a huge amount of vigor into their companies, and do not harbor any reservations about devoting extended hours to work that might be expected of them. They prefer to move towards a target according to a plan for future success, and wish to receive feedback regarding their actions. They think that they can be in charge of their own lives, and none else have the power over them. Bill Gates almost certainly a superb illustration of a powerful â€Å"personal achiever† It is evident that he thinks a powerful psychological urgency to attain his objectives. This comes to be rather obvious when you go through his history prior to his founding Microsoft Corporation. He pushed to the very extreme regardless of whatever he performed, and turned into an overachiever. Anita Roddick, who began the Body Shop, might also be the same. (Four Types of Successful Entrepreneurs – Some Details) The founder of Southwest Airlines Herb Kelleher in 1967 is one more instance. Triumphing several extremely hard initial years, the company has grown to be one of America†s top ten airlines and not like any other airline in the industry, through applying some very innovative ideas and a distinctive approach to its functioning, it has achieved 29 consecutive years of profitability. Even though Herb was earlier a trained lawyer, he has been successful in inculcating an entrepreneurial energy all through his organization and is regarded by several in the current era to be one of the most brilliant business leaders in America. His singular endeavors have played a significant part in the profitability of Southwest Airlines. The next group of Super salespeople has a huge amount of compassion in store for others. They have an inclination towards social atmospheres and people in groups, and they understand the value of relationships tremendously. They think selling as an important constituent of business. An outstanding illustration of Super Salesperson is almost certainly Ross Perot who plunged into the world of sales emerging as one of the most successful salespeople at IBM, thereafter quit IBM to launch his own company named as Electronic Data Systems –EDS. Thirdly, the Real Manager is the ‘assume-charge† categories. They are leaders in the corporate world; they might prosper in companies, and begin entrepreneurship from those categories or ranks. Their potency is managing corporations into major growth. Michael Bloomberg maybe an instance of a Real Manager. He started his career with Salomon Brothers for 16 years. In that company he was in charge of equity trading and sales department and subsequently became the chief of the systems development. He was retrenched during 1981 and then started Bloomberg. Finally, the Expert Idea Generator constitutes the genuine ideas guys. They conceive new products, discover new positions, and continue to be genuine leading lights. A brilliant illustration will be Jim Clark, who started Silicon Graphics, Netscape, and Healtheon. Besides, the people who established Apple Computers Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak almost likely to come into this group also. However, triumphant entrepreneurs are narrowed down to be included to these four groups. Moreover, several people will have the characteristics of more than a single category. However, these groups can be thought provoking. (Four Types of Successful Entrepreneurs – Some Details) To conclude, you have to look to just four things for emerging successful as an entrepreneur: First of all is vision. The concept- as you will see while you come across the next point on expressiveness – it is not necessary to be outstanding, however, an idea must be present. A lot of people possess the ability to generate product ideas, frequently by identifying uncovered market wants. Other people regrettably do not possess this capability. Second is persistence and sticking around. There are a lot of entrepreneurs attempting to capture the same markets. The people who emerge successful possess the power to keep it up. Moreover, above all, they possess the potential on the theme in their control without dissuading thoughts or episodes worrying them. Nothing is able to dissuade them. Successful entrepreneurs are frequently found to be bachelors. The third factor is expressiveness and control. I believe that expressiveness/control is crucial to business entrepreneurial achievement. It might be included under the caption Emotional Intelligence as more and more research favors the concept that individuals having high Emotional Intelligence turn out to be more successful entrepreneurs compared to those with low Emotional Intelligence. Expressiveness is regarded as a higher ability compared to sales potential. It is a thorough knowledge of the psychology of urging and swaying. Fourth is the capability to have an idea with regard to finances. The only means to check business liquidation is to have a thorough knowledge of cash flow, capital structures, and the process to go through financial statements. Completely understanding finances even has another crucial role: in money matters, do not trust anybody.
